Design Inspiration

Renzo Piano, a native of Genoa, didn't just want a lift. He wanted a sculpture that honored the port's past.

  • The Name: "Bigo" was the name of the ship cranes used to load cargo.
  • The Function: Besides the tourist lift, the arms support the canopy of the Piazza delle Feste (the tent next to it). It is a machine that holds up the public space.
