Vintage Genoa Transport - Trams and Trolleys

Today you ride the red bus. But until the 1960s, Genoa had one of the most complex tram networks in Italy, conquering the steep hills.

The Masterpiece

The Tramway of the Tunnels (Tramvay delle Gallerie) connected the center to the west, passing through specially enlarged tunnels.

• The Legacy: Today, the tunnels are used by cars and buses, but if you look closely at the ceilings of the "Galleria Garibaldi", you might spot the old hooks for the electric lines.

The Survivors

The trams are gone, but the Funiculars (Zecca-Righi) and Elevators remain, serving the same function: going vertical.
