Genoa CFC - History of Italy's First Football Team

Standard HOHO buses don't go to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium (Marassi), but the spirit of the Genoa Cricket and Football Club is everywhere.

1893: The Beginning

Founded by British expats in the consulate building (Via Palestro), it was originally a cricket club. They introduced football to Italy.

• The Colors: Red and Blue.
• The Symbol: The Griffin (Il Grifone), symbol of the city.

The Rivalry

The city is split in two: Genoa (center/old town roots) and Sampdoria (born later, 1946). The "Derby della Lanterna" is one of the most passionate in Europe.
