In the 16th century, Genoa was so rich it was the banker of Europe. The "Rolli" were lists of prestigious palaces chosen by lottery to host visiting cardinals, princes, and kings.

Where to see them?

Via Garibaldi (Strada Nuova) is the epicenter. The HOHO bus stops nearby (Piazza Fontane Marose or De Ferrari).

The Museums (Strada Nuova Museums)

One ticket covers three main palaces:

  1. Palazzo Rosso: Famous for its art collection (Van Dyck, Dürer) and the rooftop view.
  2. Palazzo Bianco: More superb art (The Ecce Homo by Caravaggio).
  3. Palazzo Tursi: The City Hall. It houses Paganini's Violin (Il Cannone).

Rolli Days

Twice a year (usually May and October), the city opens all the private palaces to the public for free. If you are in town then, it is unmissable.
