If your bus extends along the coast (or if you stay on Corso Europa), you reach Quarto dei Mille.

The Night of May 5, 1860

Giuseppe Garibaldi and about a thousand volunteers ("I Mille") stole two steamships and sailed from the Scoglio di Quarto to Sicily.

  • The Result: The unification of Italy.

The Monument

There is a stark, powerful monument on the rocks. It is a place of pilgrimage for patriots. Even if you just see it from the road, it's a pivotal coordinate in European history.
