The vast hall of the old Flower Market filled with plants

Genoa is famous for the Euroflora exhibition. For decades, its home was the magnificent Flower Market in the Foce district (near the end of the Red Line).

The Structure

It was a masterpiece of modern engineering, a vast shell of concrete and glass that hosted thousands of traders.

  • Why flowers? Liguria is the "Rivera dei Fiori". Carnations and roses were exported from here to all of Northern Europe.

Today

The area is currently undergoing a massive waterfront redesign (Waterfront di Levante) by Renzo Piano. The old market is gone/transformed, making way for a new canal district.
